In a significant incident stirring political circles in Tripura, the District Magistrate of Gomati, Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, is reportedly facing the possibility of administrative repercussions after allegedly refusing to grant an audience to Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the founder of the regional political party TIPRA Motha.

According to Pradyot, who was accompanied by Purna Chandra Jamatia, the Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), he had made repeated efforts over the past month to initiate a dialogue with the DM regarding pressing matters. Despite multiple attempts—via phone and formal requests—there was no response from the administrative head.

Speaking at a press briefing in Udaipur, Pradyot expressed dismay over what he termed as deliberate neglect. “For weeks, I have tried to reach out for a meeting, but there has been no acknowledgment or response. This level of disregard is unacceptable,” he said.

Matters escalated on Saturday evening when Pradyot arrived at the official residence of the DM to meet him directly. However, the gate security personnel reportedly relayed a message from the DM, advising him to visit the office during working hours instead.

Perceiving this response as disrespectful, Pradyot immediately brought the matter to the notice of the state’s Chief Secretary and Chief Minister. Following this, unconfirmed reports suggested that the DM had been “closed,” a term often used in administrative parlance to indicate suspension, transfer, or removal from active duty.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation or press release from either the State Secretariat or district administration regarding any action taken against Tarit Kanti Chakma. The situation remains tense, with political observers awaiting further developments.
